A Fish for Every Friday: 7 Easy-to-Prepare Dishes During Lent

For many Americans, another Friday during the Lenten season means another day of dining on fish. When you think of Lent, fish frys immediately come to mind. If you are tired of waiting in line and are searching for something different than your standard Friday fish fry fare, try these simple Lent-approved options that will give you something to enjoy. 

1. Chilean Sea Bass: Chilean sea bass has a rich buttery flavor with large delicate, moist flakes. Pan sauté, sear, broiled, grilled or baked are all excellent preparation choices. Try this simple recipe for oven-baked sea bass with white wine and herbs.

2. Wild Salmon Fillets: From the cold waters of the Pacific, salmon is naturally juicy with a firm texture, perfect for grilling. Simply season with your favorite mix of spices or just add a little sea salt and lemon juice and place on a cedar plank when grilling for a hint of smoky flavor.

Lobster Tails3. Gourmet Lobster Tails: From the warm waters of the Caribbean, these tails are deliciously sweet and succulent and a breeze to prepare. Bring 2 quarts of water to a boil in a large saucepan. Remove frozen tails from packaging and place in the boiling water. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook tails for 12-15 minutes until meat is opaque in color. Serve with a side of warm butter for a melt in your mouth experience.

4. Coconut Shrimp with Apricot Mango Wasabi Sauce: Succulent butterflied shrimp with sweet coconut breading, this dish is easy to prepare and excellent served with a side of Apricot Mango Wasabi Sauce. Preheat oven to 400 degrees and place desired number of coconut shrimp on a foil lined baking sheet. Bake for 14-16 minutes, remove and serve over a bed of rice for a quick easy meal.

5. Pub-Style Cod: Hungry for a fish fry? Pre-browned, this is a delicious option to cook at home in minutes. Preheat your oven to 425 degree and place cod portions on a single layer shallow baking pan. Bake for 15 to 17 minutes turning halfway through. Just add “chips” and you have a delicious meal without waiting in line!

6. Maine Lobster Ravioli: For a seafood option that is different from the ordinary, Maine lobster ravioli is an extraordinary choice. Sweet, tender chunks of whole Maine lobster meat are blended with cream and sautéed onions and wrapped in made-from-scratch egg pasta in a white wine, basil and butter sauce. Simply boil pasta, heat sauce and serve. It’s just that simple.

7. Icelandic Cod: New from Omaha Steaks, Icelandic Cod is a heart-healthy option that is lean and juicy. Bake thawed or frozen, this fish is easy to prepare. Just place on a foil lined baking sheet, lightly season with olive oil, sea salt and fresh lemon and let the oven do the work.
