Flank Steak Cooking Tips & Recipes

Flank steak is a very underrated steak. It has a ton of flavor and is really quite inexpensive compared to some of the other more popular cuts. There are 3 things to keep in mind when cooking it:

1. Be sure to marinate it. 
2. Cook it very hot and fast.
3. Always slice it across the grain when serving it.

When cooking flank steak. you want to preheat grill on high, then grill 4 minutes on first side and 2-3 minutes on second side. Remove from grill and allow to rest 3-5 minutes. To serve, slice steak thinly against the grain. At Omaha Steaks we now have 2 different Flank Steak Selections. The first is our Carne Asada Marinated Flank Steak. With this one the marinating work has already been done for you and you just thaw, cook and eat. It is great all by itself but I like to slice it and make tacos or Fajitas. We also now sell a non-marinated Flank Steak. This is perfect for those who like to use their own marinade recipes or want to experiment with something new. Below, you will find 3 of my personal favorite flank steak recipes that I hope you will give a try.

1. Mediterranean Marinated Flank Steak

Prep Time: 15 minutes + 8 hours marinade time
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 8 hours and 30 minutes
Stars: 4

Serves 4

Ingredients:
1 lb Flank Steak (Fully Trimmed)
1/2 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
2 tsp Kosher Salt
1/2 tsp Ground Black pepper
1/4 cup Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
2 Tbsp Fresh Garlic cloves, chopped
1 Tbsp Rosemary fresh chopped
1 Tbsp Fresh Chopped oregano
1/4 cup White Wine

Procedure:
1. Combine all ingredients but steak, and mix well.
2. Place marinade in a plastic bag with the flank steak and let marinade overnight.
3. Grill steak, slice and serve.

Suggestion: Serve with pita bread, feta cheese, tomatoes and Tzatziki sauce.

2. Lemon Chipotle Marinated Flank Steak

Prep Time: 15 minutes + 8 hours marinade time
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 8 hours and 30 minutes

Serves 4

Ingredients:
1 lb Flank Steak (Fully Trimmed)
¼ cup Fresh Lemon Juice
1 Tbsp Garlic, chopped
¼ cup Olive Oil
1 tsp Kosher Salt
¼ tsp Black Pepper, ground
2 Tbsp Canned Chipotle in Adobo Sauce, puréed

Procedure:
1. Combine all ingredients but steak, and mix well.
2. Place marinade in a plastic bag with the flank steak and let marinade over night.
3. Grill steak, slice and serve.

Suggestion: Slice and serve in tacos or fajitas with tortilla, salsa, sour cream and guacamole.

3. Korean Barbecue Marinated Flank Steak

Prep Time: 15 minutes + 8 hours marinade time
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 8 hours and 30 minutes

Serves 4

Ingredients:
1 lb Flank Steak (Fully Trimmed)
1 cup Canned Pear Juice
1/2 cup Soy Sauce
2 Tbsp. Brown Sugar
1 Tbsp. Crushed Red Pepper
2 Tbsp. Garlic (finely chopped)
2 Tbsp. Fresh Ginger Minced
1 Tbsp. Sesame Oil
1/2 Cup Korean BBQ Sauce (Store bought)

Procedure:
1. Combine all ingredients but steak and Korean BBQ Sauce.
2. Mix well and place marinade in a plastic bag with the flank steak. Let marinade overnight.
3. Grill steak, slice and serve with the Korean BBQ Sauce for dipping.
